Crown Hotel, Crown Point Road, Leeds
Older memories
Undated, source: Leodis. Note that there is no modern building to the right at this time.
Les Billingham commented about the Crown: "I don't know about The Crown's beer during WW2, but when I worked at Tetley's in the 1970s it was a Whitbread pub and we were unofficially 'banned' from drinking in there - so we went to The Adelphi at lunch times! Also, there were no gates at the Crown Point Road end of Hunslet Road in those days."
Views (left) taken in summer 2010 (not by me!) showing the Crown Hotel at the junction of Crown Point Road (foreground) with Hunslet Road (left). This public house is believed to have been closed for a number of years and is falling into a state of disrepair. On the right, new buildings have gone up on the site of the printing works of R.G. Plowright & Co., but old works buildings still remain on the left; these were once occupied by E. Pickett & Co., glass merchants. Can't find much history on this pub but apparently the landlord was found hanging from the fire escape some time in the 1980s.

A record by me of its deterioration.....
